Rice holds off Coventry to win Olympic 400 IM
Stephanie Rice of Australia won the gold medal in the women's 400-meter individual medley Sunday, beating the world record with a time of 4 minutes, 29.45 seconds. Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe also went under the previous mark of 4:31.12, set by Katie Hoff at the U.S. Olympic trials.
But Coventry's time of 4:29.89 was only good enough for a silver. Hoff settled for the bronze in 4:31.71.
