Heidemann celebrates her victory.
Britta Heidemann from Germany defeated China Li Na 15-13 in the Women's Individual Epee semifinals to secure her place in the Olympic Women's Individual Epee final.
World No. 3 Li took a 6-3 lead at the onset, but World No. 1 Heidemann recovered to level at 6-6, 7-7, and 8-8, and gained one more touch to end the bout after the score reached 14-13 in her favor.
In the other semifinal event, Romanian fencer Ana Maria Branza defeated Ildiko Mincza-Nebald of Hungary 15-14 to clinch her place in the top two.
The bout was so tight that the score tied at every point from 2 to 14. In the end, Branza made the final touch first to advance.
The Women's Individual Epee final match will start at 9:30 p.m. (UTC/GMT +8) on August 13 at the Fencing Hall of the National Convention Center in Beijing.
