Hypolito limiting self to two Olympic events

Hypolito limiting self to two Olympic events

World champion Diego Hypolito will compete only in floor and vault at the Beijing Olympics. The 2005 and 2007 world gold medalist in floor said Wednesday he is limiting himself to the two events, in which the Brazilian will be a medals favorite.

"I have done preparation for floor and vaults, no more," said Hypolito, the first Brazilian to win a world title. "The vault is good preparation for floor, too.

" Besides his two world championships, Hypolito finished second to Romania's Marian Dragulescu on floor in 2006. He also won gold on floor and vault at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he was one of that event's biggest stars.

"At Pan Americans, it was very important I compete for Brazil," he said. "That was all good preparation for Olympics.

" Hypolito has struggled physically since the 2007 worlds. He was hospitalized with dengue fever while recovering from right knee surgery, but promised "a mosquito will not get in the way of my preparation for the Olympics Games in Beijing.

" The arthroscopic knee surgery occurred in March. On Wednesday, Hypolito downplayed any physical ailments.

"There are no injuries," he said. "I am prepared for the vault and floor.
