Three new subway lines start trial run
The inaugural ceremony for trial operation of Subway Line 10 (Phase I), the Olympic Extension and the Airport Express Line was held on the morning of July 19 at Beitucheng Station, where Subway Line 10 connects the Olympic Extension.
Attending the ceremony were Liu Qi, President of the BOCOG, Guo Jinlong, Executive President of the BOCOG and Mayor of Beijing, and Chen Gang, vice major of Beijing.
The three new subway lines have a combined rail distance of 58km, bringing the Beijing subway system to 200km of tracks with 8 rail lines. This will mean more rapid and convenient service for the Olympics Games.
As an important subway line connecting the north and the east of Beijing, the Phase I Project of Subway Line 10 extends 25km long with 22 stops, and includes six interchange stations with connections to the No. 13 line, the Olympic extension, No.5 line, the Airport Express Line, No.1 line, and No. 4 line. As such, Subway Line 10 can reach Beijing's new development area Zhongguancun, the Beijing Olympic Center, the Asia Games Village and the CBD zone, as well as other key functional areas.
In terms of design, , the Phase I Project of Subway Line 10 highlights the concepts of People-oriented, Energy-saving, Environmental protection and Metro Frontier, and introduces new technology and personalized service facilities and barrier-free facilities, such as vertical elevator and escalator, for the convenience of Beijing citizens. The Chinese cultural elements are found everywhere in Subway Line 10.
The Olympic Extension is 4.5km long in total with 4 stops. Its starting stop, Beitucheng Station, is connected to the Olympic Green and the Olympic Central Zone.
The Airport Line is 28km long with 4 stations stretching from Dongzhimen to the Airport. It uses the world's most advanced Bombardier linear motor technology with strong climbing capability (maximum slope of the line is 46% grade) so that it can safely pass through a small curve radius (the minimum radius of the line is 160m). This line was designed for minimal vibration and noise, and should provide a steady and comfortable ride. The maximum running speed of the vehicle reaches 110km/h.
The three lines will begin carrying passengers from 2 p.m. on July 19. The fare for subway line 10 (Phase I) will be 2 yuan based on the current standard price, while the fare for the Airport Line is 25 yuan. Starting from July 20, the Olympic Extension is open exclusively to spectators holding tickets for the day and holders of registered certificates for the Beijing Olympics Games.
